Coopservice was born from the merger in 1991 of two leading service providing companies: Coopsicurezza (operating from 1976) and Cierrepi (established in 1972). The first head office was located at Via Galliano, Reggio Emilia, Italy As of the 31st December 1990, the Co-op had 1,069 members (out of 1,239 employees). Revenues were ITL 48,975,645,000 Italian and the share capital amounted to ITL 1,113,267,000.
In 1992, Coop 78, a cleaning services co-op from Parma (Italy), was merged into Coopservice.
In 1993, Coop Nazionale Vigilanza, a security services co-op from Genoa (Italy), was merged into Coopservice.
In 1995, the co-ops Promoservice (from Pordenone, Italy) and Vigilia (from Rome) were merged into Coopservice.
In 1998, Coopservice acquires Bergamaschi, a cleaning services company from Bolzano (Italy) whose activities include special waste transport, mostly for hospitals. For the first time, Coopservice turnover exceeded the equivalent of 100 million Euros.
In 2001, Coopservice acquires Federalpol, a security services company with operations in Parma, Pescara and Chieti (Italy)
In 2002, Mgm, a historical logistics, moving and goods handling co-op from Reggio Emilia, merged with Coopservice. The same year Coopservice took over Servizi Italia, an industrial laundry business with facilities in several Italian cities. At the time, the Group’s revenues were in excess of EUR 270 million and Coopservice had more than 8,000 employees.
In 2003, the acquisition of Vigilanza Adriatica of Rimini (Italy) and IPVP of Forlì (Italy) opened the way to the expansion of Coopservice into Romagna and the Adriatic coast area.
In 2007, Servizi Italia got listed on the Italian stock exchange. The move was a great success and proved expedient to the growth of the Co-op and its main affiliated company.
In 2009, Coopservice moved its head office from Cavriago (near Reggio Emilia) to Reggio Emilia, Via Rochdale 5. 5. A few hundreds metres from there, there is now the Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana high-speed railway station, located on the Milan–Rome high-speed railway.
On 1st January 2010, Coopservice took over the security services company Executive of Sassari (Italy) and started a strong expansion into the Italian region of Sardinia.
In 2012, the 2012–2014 Strategic Plan was approved, extending the Co-op ‘s ambitions into the field of integrated services. The Annual General Meeting of 30th June 2012 in Zola Predosa (near Bologna) approved the new Articles of Association and Regulations. The registered office was moved to Reggio Emilia. The corporate object was extended and the role of financing members strengthened. Honorary members were introduced. In July 2012, Servizi Italia entered the Brazilian market to acquire a 50% stake in a company based in São Paulo.
On 1st January 2013, Coopservice absorbed the two subsidiaries Log’s and Simtek.
In 2014, the takeover of Argo, a security services co-op from Florence founded in 1915, strengthened our presence in the Italian region of Tuscany. The same year Coopservice acquired Gesta, a leading facility management company from the CCPL Group.
On 24th April 2015, when its 2015-2017 Strategic Plan was presented at Centro Malaguzzi in Reggio Emilia, Coopservice was getting near the 25th anniversary of its foundation and looking ahead to the challenges that still awaited it.
2016 was the year of the 25th anniversary of the Company's foundation. In March, the book ‘Coopservice, 25 anni di lavoro e di crescita’ (‘Coopservice, 25 Years of Work and Growth’) was presented at the presence of the Italian Minister of Labour and Social Policies, Giuliano Poletti. Late in June, at Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia, during the Delegates' General Meeting, the Company’s anniversary was celebrated with a special event centred on the growth of people, services and communities. The Group's revenues were in excess of EUR 750 million and the Company had more than 18,000 employees.
